The federal Dept. of Housing and Urban Development announced Tuesday, Jan. 29, monetary awards totaling more than $171 million to renew funding for homeless assistance programs — housing and services — in five Southern California counties.

Los Angeles County and the city of Los Angeles received the largest amount in the 2018 fiscal year Continuum of Care grants at $114 million to support 141 local projects.

A Continuum of Care is the planning network in a geographic area that coordinates money and services to address homelessness.

Other HUD awards included:

  • Santa Ana/Anaheim/Orange County, $23 million for 26 projects
  • San Bernardino County and city, $9.7 million for 20 projects
  • Riverside County and city, $9.5 million for 19 projects
  • Long Beach, $7.7 million for 19 projects
  • Pasadena, $3.2 million for 10 projects
  • Glendale, $2.3 million for 11 projects

HUD expects to announce awards for new projects later in the year.
