Steve Fryer’s five standout basketball players from last week:
Jakob Alamudun, Marina: He scored 31 points in a Surf League overtime win over Fountain Valley and 27 in a league win over Huntington Beach. Alamudun, a 6-5 senior guard, signed with Lehigh University. He was Marina’s male honoree at the Orange County Athletic Directors Association’s “Athletes of Character” event.
Kevin Kent, Los Alamitos: People who attended the Los Alamitos vs. Los Altos of Hacienda Heights game Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei saw what they wanted to see when CIF-Southern Section No. career scorer Jacob Lucas scored 41 points. They also saw Kent, a 5-9 junior, score 23 points with three 3-pointers and five assists.
Makur Maker, Orange Lutheran: A 6-11 junior with impressive dexterity and ball-handling and shooting skills for his size, Maker was impressive in back-to-back games at the Nike Extravaganza. On Friday he scored 25 points and was 10 for 12 at the free-throw line in a 78-41 win over Dos Pueblos of Goleta. Maker on Saturday He scored 22 points with two 3s and 15 rebounds in a loss to Foothills Christian of El Cajon.
Ian Martinez, JSerra: At the Nike Extravaganza Martinez looked like he has recovered from the ankle injury that shelved him for a few games earlier this month. Martinez, a 6-3 junior, scored 18 points, including a couple of spectacular dunks, with nine rebounds in the Lions’59-59 win over St. Augustine of San Diego.
Atin Wright, Fairmont Prep: He scored 32 points including eight 3-pointers in the Huskies’ 62-44 win over Crean Lutheran at the Nike Extravaganza. Wright, a 5-11 junior guard, scored 17 points in a San Joaquin League overtime win over Pacifica Christian.
