BASEBALL
No. 13 El Toro opened the El Dorado Steakhouse Tournament with a 5-3 come-from-behind victory at No. 21 San Clemente. Down 3-0, the Chargers scored twice in the top of the fifth inning and three times in the seventh. Shane Simpson doubled and drove in two runs and Deangelo Yepez was 2-for-4 with an RBI for El Toro. Gordy Wend went 2-for-3 with a double and a run and pitched three innings. Cole Danaher doubled, scored two runs and drove in one.
Sabastian Murillo went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI as No. 17 Fountain Valley beat La Habra 9-0 at Fountain Valley High. Cole Wentz was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Tito Sanchez singled, walked and drove in a run for the Barons. Jake Brooks singled, stole a base, scored a run and drove in two. Five Fountain Valley pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
No. 22 Foothill scored eight runs in the second inning and got a combined no-hitter from four pitchers in a 14-0 win at Saugus. Keith Gannon threw four hitless innings and walked one for the win. Grant Davies, Sam Coulston and Jake Massey each pitched a perfect inning. Fifteen Knights got to bat and nine had at least one hit in a 16-hit attack. Connor McMahon was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Ryan Padayao also drove in three runs.
Bolsa Grande blasted Fairmont Prep 22-1 in a nonleague game at Fairmont Prep Academy. Omar Alegria was 5-for-5 with three RBI and George Sandoval went 2-for-4 with five RBI for the Matadors (3-0). Jimmy Young was 1-for-1 but drove in five runs, three on a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning, when Bolsa scored nine runs.
SOFTBALL
Foothill split a doubleheader in the Redlands Invitational Monday. The Knights beat hosts Redlands 10-5 in six innings in the first game. Foothill trailed 5-4 heading into the sixth, but scored six runs in the frame to win. The Knights suffered an 11-0 loss at the hands of Chino Hills in the second game. Foothill plays another doubleheader Tuesday against Beaumont and Grand Terrace.
Fullerton scored in every inning in a 10-5 win over Trabuco Hills in a nonleague win at Fullerton High. Brooklyn Campbell led the Indians’ offensive outburst with driving in two runs on two hits including a double. Freshman catcher Mya Higareda hit a two-run double in the win and Genevieve Smith drove in a run and stole two bases. Lindsey Manhart led the Mustangs with a double and two runs batted in. Jessie Lloyd had two hits, drove in a run and stole a base in the loss.
