Highlights and top performers from the Orange County baseball and softball games on Thursday, April 25.

BASEBALL

Thursday’s baseball scoreboard

No. 16 Tesoro beat No. 8 El Toro 7-3 to complete a two-game sweep of the Chargers in their last two regular-season games in the South Coast League. The Titans (13-15-1, 5-7) climbed out of last place to finish in a fourth-place tie with Mission Viejo. El Toro ended at 5-5-2 (14-12-4 overall), two games behind champion Capistrano Valley. Paul Skenes doubled and singled, while Deangelo Yepez and Ethan Glossop also banged out two hits for El Toro.

No. 5 Aliso Niguel finished off an 11-1 season in the Sea View League with a 5-1 win over No. 18 San Juan Hills. Evan Fitterer scattered five hits over six innings and struck out seven, while going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Wolverines (26-4 overall). Quinn Mathews was 3-for-3 and pitched the last inning, fanning two. Shane Roberson homered for San Juan’s run.

SOFTBALL

Thursday’s softball scoreboard

In a season in which they lost their beloved coach, No. 8 Pacifica completed a perfect campaign in the Empire League on Thursday by beating defending champ and No. 15 Kennedy 7-4 at Kennedy High. The Mariners (16-3-1, 10-0) regained the crown they had won nine straight years under coach Mark Campbell before finishing second last season. Campbell died on March 18 of this year, and the Mariners played this season in his memory. Julia Cabral won Thursday’s game, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out five. Lilyanna Martinez singled, tripled and drove in two runs, and Lania Letta also had two hits and two RBI for Pacifica. Sarah Reisler was 2-for-3 and Alyssa Brito doubled and drove in a run.

No. 17 La Habra clinched a share of its 11th straight Freeway League championship with a 15-0 win over Buena Park. A.J. Alatorre had a home run among three hits and three RBI, and Rilee Ruvacalba also had three hits and three RBI as the Highlanders (12-7-2, 9-1) became co-champs with Sonora. Jordyn Dulken struck out eight in five innings and went for 2-for-2 at the plate.
