Yorba Linda almost finished replacing eagle statue at veterans memorial

The city hopes to have a new eagle statue at Yorba Linda Veterans Memorial Park take flight by Veterans Day.

An eucalyptus tree branch fell in the park in December, bending the statue and damaging a granite bench.

The Yorba Linda City Council in August approved allocating more than $120,000 to repair the damage. Most of the money to replace the statue and the bench is coming from an insurance payout to the city.

Gary Brattain, who built the original statue in 2009, is creating the replacement statue. Brattain’s son, Pvt. First Class Joel Brattain, was killed in Iraq in 2004.

The replacement is identical to the original, Parks and Recreation Director Mike Kudron said.
