Santa Margarita’s Rich Fisher and Orange Lutheran’s JP Presley, rivals from the Trinity League, will square off again January 26 as the coaches of the Orange County All-Star Classic football game at Orange Coast College.
Fisher will coach the South and Presley will guide the North in the 60th edition of the all-star game for seniors. The game, scheduled for 7 p.m., is run by Costa Mesa United and sponsored by the L.A. Chargers.
Last year, the game was played in January for the first time after being traditionally held in the summer.
Fisher and Presley’s teams were ranked in the Orange County Top 10 all season.
In his third year, Fisher went 3-7 with the Eagles after leading the team to the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs the previous two seasons.
Santa Margarita played one of the toughest schedules in the county and dropped four games by a touchdown or less, including a 39-37 loss against Orange Lutheran in the teams’ memorable Trinity League opener at Orange Coast League.
In second season, Presley also guided the Lancers (5-6 record) through a challenging schedule and a second straight playoff appearance in Division 1. Orange Lutheran lost star wide receiver Kyle Ford to injury for the second half of the season.
Players selected to the all-star game will experience a few perks courtesy of the Chargers. The initial team meetings, scheduled for early January, are held at the organization’s facility in Costa Mesa.
The players also wear Chargers’ pants during the game, won last year 30-27 by the South and Coach Jaime Ortiz of San Clemente.
Past players and coaches from the all-star game will receive free admission to the 60th edition of the game and will be recognized before the game by decade. Game alumni are encouraged to contact Linda Nitsos at Lfnitsos@msn.com to register.
