A fourth transfer has joined Rosary’s second-ranked girls basketball team, Royals coach Rich Yoon said.

Nicole Rodriguez of Norco, a 5-foot-11 junior guard, transferred to the Trinity League school before the start of the season, Yoon said.

Rodriguez averaged 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 3.1 steals last season as a sophomore at Norco, which lost in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2-AA playoffs.

Yoon said Rodriguez will observe the Southern Section’s sit-out period for transfers but will be eligible just before Christmas.

“A big difference maker,” Yoon said of Rodriguez.

Rosary, ranked second in Orange County to Mater Dei, has already added high-profile transfers Asia Avinger (Los Alamitos) and Breanne Ha (Los Osos) along with productive Savannah Felix (Avalon).

Avinger, Ha, Rodriguez and Rosary standout guard Kate Goostrey are all juniors.

Rosary plays at Mater Dei on Jan. 10.

MILESTONE FOR HOWARD

Orange Lutheran coach Tom Howard recently earned his 200th career victory with the Lancers.

Howard is in his 10th season leading the program. He coached the junior varsity and served as a varsity assistant for 10 years at Orange Lutheran before taking the reins.

BUSY TOURNAMENT TIME

University, Corona del Mar, Brea Olinda, Orange, Fullerton and La Habra are among the county teams hosting tournaments this week.

University’s South Coast Classic features Box Hill, a team from Australia. The Aussies opened by defeating No. 11 Huntington Beach 53-46 on Monday.

Corona del Mar’s Tip Off Tournament features one of the surprise teams in the county, Segerstrom. The Jaguars opened with a 49-36 victory against San Juan Hills on Monday.

Brea Olinda’s Ladycat Classic has downsized to four teams but has an intriguing game Thursday night: Brea Olinda vs. Esperanza in a Crestview League preview at 7 p.m.

Troy’s girls are the only county team playing in La Jolla Country Day’s Sweet 16 Invitational, which starts Wednesday.

TOURNAMENT WINNERS

Mater Dei (Downey), Aliso Niguel (Murrieta Valley), El Dorado (Mark Keppel silver division), Crean Lutheran (Avalon), Oxford Academy (own) and University (Norco) are among the county teams that already won tournaments.
