The top two teams in the Orange County baseball top 25 play against each other Friday in the Boras Classic tournament.

One might expect the county’s top two teams to meet in the tournament’s championship game. But this is the Boras Classic with an extraordinarily strong field. Eight of the teams in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 top 10 are in the tournament.

Orange Lutheran (12-2) and Cypress (15-2) play in the Boras Classic consolation championship Friday at 6 p.m. at Mater Dei High.

Orange Lutheran’s scheduled starting pitcher is senior right-hander Jonathan Guzman, a San Diego State signee.

Cypress, lacking the pitching depth of Orange Lutheran, according to Cypress coach John Weber will use six pitchers Friday. Some of those six will make their varsity pitching debut against the Lancers.

Cypress defeated Orange Lutheran 2-1 on March 1 at Hart Park, Orange Lutheran’s home field, in Orange.

Cypress and Orange Lutheran are ranked 1-2 in the CIF-SS Division 1 poll.

Orange Lutheran advanced to the Boras consolation final with a 5-0 win Thursday over Great Oak of Temecula at JSerra. Senior right-hander Evan Adolphus pitched five innings in which he had seven strikeouts for no walks. Garrett Frechette had two hits, Max Rajcic had two hits including a two-run double and Jared Thomas contributed am RBI double.

Cypress moved into the consolation final with a 2-1

eight-innings win Thursday over Mater Dei at Mater Dei. Tyler Chaffee pitched a complete game and singled in the eigth inning to drive in Cameron Repetti with the winning run. Repetti’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning drove in Michael Marsh to tie the game 1-1.

Also at the Boras Classic:

No. 3 Huntington Beach 11, Simi Valley 5: Josh Hahn drove in three runs and Joe Yost added two RBIs for the Oilers (13-4) at Mater Dei. Huntington Beach plays Etiwanda in the tournament’s 13th-place game Friday at 9 a.m. at Mater Dei.
