Highlights and top scorers from the Orange County basketball games on Saturday, Dec. 1.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cypress trailed by 11 points at the end of the first quarter but clawed back to beat Tesoro 61-56 for the championship of the Coyote Classic on Saturday night at Buena Park. Jared Brown scored 19 points and Clifton Patterson 14 for the Centurions, who were down 14-3 after eight minutes. Matt DeAngelo led Tesoro with 16 points.

DJ Rodman scored 28 points and was named Tournament MVP after leading JSerra to a 52-37 win over host Mission Viejo in the Diablo Inferno championship game. Ian Martinez scored 10 points and made the all-tournament team, as did Mission Viejo’s Jake Connerty (14 points) and Griff Higgins.

Garden Grove beat Pacifica 54-41 for the championship of the Los Amigos Tournament. Sebastian Castro had 23 points and 15 rebounds for the Argonauts, while Jerry Martinez added 22 points and 10 boards.

Makur Maker scored 35 points in Orange Lutheran’s 83-50 win over St. Bernard in the Battle Zone at Corona Centennial.

Mater Dei fell to Whitney Young of Chicago 67-61 in the Chicago Elite Classic. Ryan Evans scored 22 points on four 3-pointers for the Monarchs (3-1). Harrison Hornery had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Wilhelm Breidenbach grabbed 16 rebounds to go with eight points.
