Winds will whip around in Southern California into the weekend

Strong winds will sweep through Southern California into Saturday, Dec. 29, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, with winds expected to whip through stretches in the Fontana, Crestline, Mission Viejo and Burbank areas. A separate advisory for Santa Clarita, Valencia,Woodland Hills, Northridge and Universal City was expected to end Friday afternoon.

Winds reaching up to 40 to 50 mph – and isolated gusts hitting 60 mph through some passes – were forecasted for Friday in the Inland Empire.

Officials with the Weather Service and the California Highway Patrol advised anyone traveling in high-profile vehicles in areas affected by winds to take precautions. Thursday night, winds pushed a large tree onto a West Hollywood home, in the 8000 block of Rosewood Avenue.

Temperatures were expected to remain chilly into the weekend.

The high temperatures in Rancho Cucamonga, Moreno Valley and Redlands were expected to be in the upper-50s to low-60s during the weekend; the lows will dip into the mid-30s and high-40s.

It was to be slightly warmer in the beach communities, such as Huntington Beach, Long Beach and Malibu, with temperatures expected to be in the low 60s during daytime this weekend, and dropping to the mid 40s overnight.

The forecast for Pasadena, Burbank and Downey called for highs in the low- to mid 60s this weekend.

The local mountains will see frigid temperatures, with the lows in the mid-teens and the highs reaching the mid- to upper-30s over the weekend in Big Bear and Crestline.
