A suspect died in custody at a hospital following a late October altercation that sent two Anaheim police officers to the emergency room, officials said Wednesday.

Both officers were discharged from medical care and recovering from serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries sustained after an encounter with a man suspected of assaulting an apartment complex employee near the 2200 block of West Broadway on Saturday, Oct. 27, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. He was taken to the hospital and later identified as Justin Perkins, 38, of Anaheim. He was pronounced dead at 3:11 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, according to an Orange County coroner’s investigator. His cause of death has not been determined.
