Each week, publications from the The Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (including the Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) nominate Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each nominee is entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week county-wide vote.

Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think is the best athlete this week. The overall winner will be announced on Friday, Nov. 16.

Aliya Mesihovich, Wilson: The junior, who won the Moore League individual title in leading Wilson to a team championship, led all local finishers at the CIF-Southern Section prelims, coming in 11th place in her heat with a time of 18:11.1.

Isis Diaz, Sierra Canyon: The freshman phenom has quickly become a well-known name in the CIF-SS distance running community. Diaz ran the fastest girls Division 5 time (18:22) at the prelims in Riverside to lead her team to the school’s first berth into the sectional finals as a team.

Audrey Vo, Mira Costa: Vo helped lead the Mustangs to their first CIF-Southern Section tennis title since 1976 when she won her two sets Friday in a 13-5 win over Dana Hills in the Division 1 final. Vo also won two sets in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Madison Kane, Maranatha: Kane’s dominant performance in the CIF Southern Section girls tennis finals paved the way for Maranatha to defeat Woodcrest Christian 12-6 and claim the Division 5 championship Friday at The Claremont Club for its first title since 2014. Kane used her power game to storm past Woodcrest Christian sophomore Kennedy Layne for a 6-0 victory. She picked up a 6-0 victory against Woodcrest Christian’s Malena Smith and won her final match 6-1 to clinch the team victory.

Eliza Cannon, Foothill: Cannon has sparked the Knights’ run through the CIF Southern California Division II Regionals. She had six kills and 21 assists in a first-round win over La Jolla, had 10 kills and 17 assists in a second-round win over Aliso Niguel and had 12 kills in a semifinals win over Los Alamitos. Cannon plays setter and opposite hitter for the Knights (24-4), who play at Temecula Valley (22-7) in the regional final Tuesday.

Taylor Bachmann, San Dimas: The sixth-seeded Saints won twice in the state Division IV playoffs last week before losing Saturday. On Tuesday, Bachmann, an outside hitter, had 17 kills, 14 digs, 12 aces and two blocks against Cleveland. Against Linfield Christian on Thursday, she had 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks, and in a loss Saturday to Beaumont, she had 20 kills and eight digs.

Angela Heo, Murrieta Mesa: Heo will be the lone Riverside County representative at the CIF State girls golf championship this week at Victoria Club in Riverside. Heo shot a 1-over 74 and survived a playoff during last week’s Southern California regional final at Brookside Golf & Country Club in Pasadena. She was 3-under on the course’s four Par-5 holes.
