LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers extended qualifying offers to free agents Yasmani Grandal and Hyun-Jin Ryu.

If the offer is accepted, Grandal or Ryu would return for the 2019 season under a one-year, $17.9 million salary (a significant raise for either).

If the offer is declined, Grandal or Ryu would become a free agent and could still negotiate with the Dodgers. But if either signs with another team, the Dodgers will receive a compensatory draft pick following the second round next year.

Grandal and Ryu have 10 days to decide whether to accept or decline the qualifying offer.

Free agent infielder Manny Machado was not eligible for a qualifying offer because he was traded at midseason.

Grandal, 29, made $7.9 million last season while hitting .241 with 24 home runs and an .815 OPS. Among the most productive catchers in the National League offensively, Grandal lost the starting job in the postseason each of the past two years while struggling offensively and defensively.

Ryu, 31, signed a six-year, $36 million contract when he moved from Korean baseball to MLB in 2013. He missed most of two seasons while recovering from shoulder and elbow surgeries. This year, he made $7 million while going 7-3 with a 1.97 ERA in 15 starts.
