After Jason and Ariana Burris inherited the one-story Santa Ana home built in 1961 by Jason’s grandparents, they got to work renovating and hired Anna-Marie Claassen of Anthology Interiors to bring their vision to life. “Our initial inspiration was an indoor-outdoor Palm Springs vibe,” Ariana says. “We really wanted to create something that could be honoring the past, because (our daughter) is the fourth generation to live in the house.” Claassen sourced primarily custom pieces with stain-resistant materials that fit into a mix of styles including midcentury modern, bohemian, and coastal—what she calls “California cool.”
1. Sofas
“We chose two different styles of sofas to tie this area together but also feel a little funky,” Claassen says.
2. Coffee table
“This element of concrete grounds everything in the midst of so many different textures,” Claassen says.
3. Chandelier
“I was excited that they were willing to go bold on the chandelier—the room needed a big punch,” Claassen says.
4. Painting
“There was wallpaper there that had been bleached by the sun and turned into a forest winterscape. The coloring was very similar,” Ariana says.
5. Island
“This is the biggest island our contractor has ever built,” Ariana says.
