The Orange County Register offensive player of the week for Oct. 1, 2018:

Name: Caine Savage

School: Western

Year: Junior

Noteworthy: The speedy wide receiver made 19 receptions for 242 yards – both school records – and three touchdowns to help the Pioneers collect a 35-31 upset victory against Garden Grove. Savage caught the winning touchdown with nine seconds left to finish with the third-most receptions in a game in Orange County history. He also had seven tackles at cornerback. “The best part about his performance is his understanding of the game,” Western coach Dan Davidson said. “We ran 10 different routes to get those 19 catches. … We needed all 19 catches … to beat an outstanding team in Garden Grove.”
