OCVarsity breaks down Division 3 of the CIF-SS football playoffs:
DIVISION 3
Top seeded teams
1. Cajon (9-1)
2. Citrus Hill (10-0)
3. Sierra Canyon (7-3)
4. Lompoc (8-2)
O.C. teams in this division
Capistrano Valley (7-3)
Analysis: Cajon and touted quarterback Jaylen Daniels are rolling again after a midseason loss to Heritage. The Cowboys simply have too much offensive firepower for the division. Daniels has thrown for 3,167 yards and 44 TDs and only been intercepted three times. He also has run for almost 1,000 yards. Then there’s 6-foot-7 wide receiver Darren Jones, who is committed to Utah, Cajon, last season’s Division 4 champion, averages 48 points per game. Citrus Hill has the defense with the best chance of slowing Cajon. The Hawks are allowing only 3.5 points per game. But Citrus Hill will fall in the semifinals to Sierra Canyon, which has played a better schedule. Capo Valley emerged as an intriguing team by challenging Division 1 Mission Viejo but went 1-2 since a promising 31-24 loss against the Diablos. Quarterback Nathan Manning has passed for 2,728 yards and 41 TDs and has four receivers with at least 30 receptions. The senior and a solid defense will lead the Cougars to an upset of No. 4 seed Lompoc en route to the semifinals, where they fall to Cajon.
Championship game prediction: Cajon def. Sierra Canyon
