Update: By 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Southern California Edison outages map indicated power had been restored to affected  Costa Mesa customers

Earlier coverage:

Lights went dark for roughly 1,465 homes in Costa Mesa due to a power outage on Monday, Oct. 1.

The malfunction was reported at 9:37 p.m., said Lois Pitter-Bruce, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison. She said it affected an area bordered by Keller Avenue to the North, Town Center Drive to the South, Main Street to the East and Bristol Street to the West.

Maintenance crews had been dispatched by 10 p.m. and were working to determine the cause of the outage, according to Pitter-Bruce. It was not immediately clear when power would be restored.

Pitter-Bruce said crews were working cautiously since the circuit is located underground.

“We’re hopeful that everyone will get power back shortly, but I won’t have an estimated time for power restoration until they’ve identified the cause of the outage,” Pitter-Bruce said.

Staff writer Robert Gundran contributed to this story.
