WASHINGTON — Some nights it seems like one team can’t miss and the other is battling a lid on the rim. That scenario played out for the Sparks on Tuesday night in the nation’s capital. Candace Parker and Chelsea Gray (seven assists) each scored 12 points for the Sparks (18-11), who were beginning a three-game trip that continues Thursday in Indiana and concludes Saturday in Las Vegas. Natasha Cloud scored 15 points, Emma Meesseman had 12 and Ariel Atkins added 10 for Washington. Kristi Toliver missed her seventh straight game with a bone bruise in her right knee. The Mystics came into the game averaging 97.1 points during their home winning streak. Washington (22-8) made six 3-pointers in the first quarter for a 33-22 lead and had nine by halftime. The Mystics finished 11 for 35 from beyond the arc and 22 of 24 from the free-throw line to remain atop the WNBA standings with four regular-season games left.
