Orange County treasurer to auction off ‘delinquent’ time-shares

Want to own an Orange County time-share?

The Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office plans to hold its third online time-share auction Sept. 18, offering for sale close to 80 delinquent properties to recover unpaid property taxes.

Bidding starts at 8 a.m., closing in batches starting at 1 p.m.

Minimum bids range from $600 to $3,100. To check out the time-shares, go to OCtaxauction.mytaxsale.com.

You must register to view the entire listing by clicking on the word “Register” in the blue banner at the top of the page.

To bid, you must submit a refundable $1,000 deposit by eCheck through the “My Payments” link on the registration website by 5 p.m. Sept. 10.

Links to the five time-share properties — located in San Clemente, Capistrano Beach and Newport Coast — are located in pull-down menus on the “View Auction” webpage.

The treasurer’s office did not provide any further details on individual time-shares or give the dates when owners will have access to their properties. Specific questions should be directed to the resorts, the treasurer’s office said.

Treasurer-Tax Collector Shari Freidenrich warned potential bidders before prior auctions to research the time-shares thoroughly before bidding, saying they were being sold on a “buyer beware” basis.
