Perhaps no rival saw more of Mater Dei quarterback JT Daniels in high school than St. John Bosco.
So when former Braves offensive coordinator Chad Johnson says he believe Daniels will play well Saturday when he makes his anticipated college debut with USC, take his opinion seriously.
“He’s going to do exactly what he did in the Trinity League. He’s going to freaking ball,” said Johnson, now the coach at Mission Viejo. “The guy is amazing. He’s going to do exactly what Josh did.”
Johnson was referring to his former prized pupil at St. John Bosco, quarterback Josh Rosen, who started at UCLA as a freshman. Rosen, a first round draft pick in the 2018 NFL draft, now plays for the Arizona Cardinals.
Daniels and USC play host to UNLV on Saturday. Johnson believes Daniels, who reclassified to graduate Mater Dei one year early, will be ready.
“He’s so talented, so smart,” Johnson said. “That’s the thing about going to big-time place like this (Mission Viejo) or like Mater Dei or like St. John Bosco. When you get to the next level, you’re so well prepared. … And the bottom line is that this area breeds some of the best quarterbacks in the country, year in and year out.”
