Fryer on football: Previews and predictions for Thursday’s games

Previews and predictions for Thursday’s top high school football games in Orange County:

LAGUNA HILLS (1-0) VS. MARINA (1-1)

Where, when: Westminster High, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Analysis: These teams have, for the first time in a couple of years, real hope for the playoffs. Laguna Hills rolled past University last week 46-6. Marina, now out of the Sunset League and in the Big 4 League that is part of the new Golden West Conference, lost two weeks ago to a Florida team and last week shut out Torrance 31-0. This looks like a close game between two teams looking to keep their confidence level rising.

Winner: Laguna Hills

NO. 21 ALISO NIGUEL (2-0) VS. KENNEDY (1-1)

Where, when: Western High, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Analysis: Kennedy will try to make Aliso Niguel stop the Fighting Irish running game led by Ray Aldapa (266 rushing yards in 27 carries). Aliso Niguel has won a one-sided game and a close one – 49-8 over Long Beach Jordan two weeks ago, 28-27 over Sunny Hills last week. Aliso Niguel, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 9, should be able to contain Aldapa and get to 3-0.

Winner: Aliso Niguel
