Eric Bowman, a longtime assistant football coach at Los Alamitos, died Aug. 24 of complications from acute pancreatitis.
He was 54.
Bowman was an assistant coach at Los Alamitos High School under John Barnes for some of Orange County’s better teams in the 1990s and 2000s. He was also a wrestling coach and English teacher at the school.
Barry Sher was an assistant alongside Bowman for many years. He described Bowman as “a gentle giant” who loved Los Alamitos High and its football program.
“He never said a bad word about anything or anyone,” Sher said. “He was always laughing, always smiling. You’d never see him not wearing Los Alamitos gear.”
Bowman also coached pro football team in Finland for a year.
Bowman is survived by his wife Jillian and children Mikayla, Ashlyn and Brady.
Services are Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cypress. A luncheon will follow.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Bowman’s name to the Los Alamitos Education Foundation After-School Enrichment Program.
