EAST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — Police were searching for a gunman Thursday evening after a 27-year-old woman was shot and killed in East Hollywood.
According to LAPD, the shooting occurred at 2:21 p.m. in the 900 block of North Oxford Avenue.
Family members have since identified the victim as 27-year-old Cindy Lopez who was a resident on the street where she was shot.
Upon their arrival, police requested an ambulance after finding a female victim unconscious and not breathing.
According to Lopez’s cousin, she lived in a nearby home with her mother and brother.
Lopez was shot across the street from her home in the driveway of an apartment complex where she used to live, a neighbor said.
“It appeared the victim walked to this location and was maybe followed by the suspect,” said LAPD Lt. John Radtke.
Police later indicated that Lopez was targeted in the shooting.
“We don’t know if the two know one another or not, but it does appear that this is not a random act,” said Radtke.
Witnesses couldn’t identify the gunman but told police they saw him run north down Oxford Avenue.
A male suspect was seen leaving the scene in a light blue Toyota RAV4.
