Power outages cut electricity to thousands of customers in Los Angeles and Orange counties on Monday, July 15.
Fullerton experienced the most widespread outages, with more than 12,700 Southern California Edison customers in that city left in the dark Monday evening, according to the SCE website. It wasn’t clear what caused the problem, Fullerton Police Lt. Tony Bogart said.
The outage affected several street lights throughout the city. Police received an uptick in collision reports Monday evening, but it wasn’t immediately clear if those were related to the loss of electricity, Bogart said.
SCE spokesman Paul Netter said the problem was at a substation at Harbor Boulevard and Walnut Avenue and that, “Crews are working to pinpoint the problem and to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
By about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to many Fullerton customers but 4,863 remained without power, SCE reported. There was no estimated restoration time for the remaining customers listed on the SCE website.
Separately, a power outage had affected more than 1,400 Southern California Edison customers in the Valencia area.
Per @SCE, over 1,400 residents still affected by power outage in 91354 zip code. It’s still warm out there, make sure you drink plenty of water & check on elderly neighbors. pic.twitter.com/7NiYmarbZT

One of our deputies said, "I've almost been hit multiple times providing traffic control when the lights are out."
WHAT TO DO IF TRAFFIC LIGHTS ARE NOT OPERATING:
Treat it like a 4-way stop. Proceed cautiously as if intersection has “STOP” signs in all directions. pic.twitter.com/Zfdknw7Vxc

The outage was reported just before 7 p.m., Netter said. By about 1 a.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to all but 117 customers there, according to the SCE website.
The affected area was bounded by Rye Canyon Loop to the north and west, Riverside Lane to the south and Decoro Drive to the east, Netter said.
