Fryer on baseball: Championships have been won, but season continues with all-star games

Cypress, Kennedy and Santa Margarita celebrated winning CIF-Southern Section championships Saturday.

But the high school baseball season is not over.

The Orange County All-Star Baseball Game is Tuesday at Glover Stadium in Anaheim. The La Palma Park sports complex’s baseball field is called Dee Fee Field but most people still, and perhaps always will, call the sports facility Glover Stadium.

Most-recent tabulations have 139 Major League Baseball players having played in this game including Hall of Famers Bert Blyleven (Santiago) and Gary Carter (Sunny Hills) and Yankees manager Aaron Boone (Villa Park) and Angels all-time great pitcher Mike Witt (Servite) who was the pitching coach at Santa Margarita when current Angels pitcher Griffin Canning threw for the Eagles.

The event begins with pregame ceremonies, including player introductions, at 6:40 p.m., and the first pitch at 7 p.m. It is a nine-inning game with plentiful substitutions. Admission is $5.
