Sahana Saikumar, Arcadia: The talented forward turned in an outstanding performance at the prestigious Keppel Tournament. The senior averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds in the tournament. She played a pivotal role in the Apaches defeating Flintridge Prep 67-65 in the “Blue” Division final with 23 points and six rebounds.

Kayla Williams, Bishop Montgomery: Williams began last week by signing a letter of intent with UC Irvine. The senior guard then helped lead Bishop Montgomery to the title at the Battle at the Beach Tournament and earned MVP honors. Williams scored 30 points in the semifinal win against Windward and added 24 in the final against Etiwanda. She also had 16 points in a win over Chaminade and 22 against Lynwood.

Rayah Marshall, Lynwood: Marshall, considered one of the top recruits nationally in the 2021 class, led the Knights to a 2-2 record to start the year by averaging a double-double in the four games. The 6-foot-3 guard is posting 25.0 points and 14.3 rebounds per contest to start the year, in addition to 3.3 steals and 4.0 blocks.

Maria Hernandez, Santa Ana: The junior placed ninth in Division I at the CIF State cross country championships by clocking a time of 17 minutes, 53.8 seconds, the fastest time by an Orange County girl on the day at Woodward Park’s 5,000-meter course in Fresno. She also earned all-state honors. Saints coach Carlos Nava said Hernandez, who led for the first two miles, surprised him by breaking away from the top-20 pack early. “At the end of the race, I happily asked her, ‘So why did you take the lead,’ ” Nava recalled. “She said, well, you told me to run without fear and (it) felt good to take a risk so I did.” Hernandez placed 14th in CIF-SS Division 1.

Sarah Shulze, Oak Park: Shulze finished second in the CIF State Division III race with a time of 17 minutes, 34.8 seconds in Fresno. The previous week she won the CIF Southern Section’s Division 3 race while wearing the words “805 Strong” written on her right leg. Shulze’s runner-up performance earned her a spot in the Nike Nationals in Portland this week.

Mikaela Ramirez, Ayala: Ramirez finished third in the Division I race at the CIF State Championships, rallying in the final mile after running eighth at the 1-mile and 2.05-mile marks. Her finish led Ayala to a seventh-place finish in Division I among 22 teams. Ramirez’s time of 17 minutes, 36.4 seconds was the sixth-best time among all divisions.

Janelle Hickey, Hillcrest: Hickey averaged 15 points over four games last week to help the Trojans win the Raincross Tournament championship. She also averaged three rebounds, three assists and three steals and made 91 percent of her free throws in garnering all-tournament honors. Hillcrest’s four victories this season is two shy of the program’s total for the 2017-18 season.
