Authorities arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a brawl at a Mission Viejo apartment complex early Thursday that left a 19-year-old man badly injured.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded just after 1 a.m. to the brawl at the complex in the 27000 block of Camden, a sheriff’s official said.

Deputies found the victim with a “significant head injury,” and he was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo in critical condition.

Jesse Torres, 25, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder about 10 a.m., and deputies recovered a weapon used in the attack, authorities said.

Authorities said there had been a large party at the apartment complex before the fist fights broke out. It was unclear what sparked the dispute.

Torres was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, according to jail records.
