Pedestrian dies, driver charged with DUI and manslaughter after collision in Orange

A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured in Orange on Saturday evening, Aug. 18.

Authorities say Erin Meacham, 50, of Orange was driving north on Glassell Street when a 39-year-old man, also of Orange, was struck by her vehicle.

The man was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk near Quincy Avenue at about 8:40 p.m., police said.  The man died at the scene before he could be transferred to a hospital. Authorities did not immediately release his name.

Meacham did not flee the scene, and she was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence at the Orange County Jail, said Orange Police Department Lt. Jennifer Amat.

Amat said the investigation was continuing and that she was unable to immediately release additional details.
